oh, what a week!

I'm sitting here waiting on Abby to come home from school.  Ready for our weekend to start!  Doug is off and I am looking forward to some good family time.

As I sit here, thinking about Abby, my heart overflows with love for that little girl.  (She would tell me right now, Mommy, I'm not a little girl, I'm a big girl now.  I guess being a little girl puts her in the same category as her sisters and she is way over that stage:))

For those who know Abby, you know she has given me a run for my money over the years.  we are gradually seeing signs that she is outgrowing some of the things we have struggled with over the years. sometimes Doug and I look at eachother in shock about how easy certain things have become with her.  Anyway, that is a totally different post, back to what I started.

First of all, our beloved cat,(cough, cough) or should I say, Abby's cat has been sick.  You know what sick cats do, don't you?  They get sick everywhere!  as well as produce other bodily fluids that belong in a certain place.  Oh, Slippers!  Slippers and I have long had a love/ hate relationship.  she did most of the loving if that gives you any insight.

We took her to the vet a couple weeks ago and thought things would improve...to no avail.  We banned her to the basement...we let her free...I tried to make her stay outside..didn't work.  Thought she was better...let her back in...she wasn't.  Out to the garage in the hopes that she would learn to love the outdoors and she could come into the garage if she wanted.  She didn't like that...it was a race to get inside before she could slide by and we would have to chase her through the house as Ella would scold her, "Slippers, you bad cat, no, no.)  What an scene it was.

Anyway, we had talked about all kinds of things we could do.  Had an offer to bring her to a farm...we had some of our own thoughts....just kidding.  So, on Monday after abby went to school, Doug was going to move her back into the basement and we were going to see how that went...when he went out to get her he noticed that she was bleeding and having some other issues.  Took her to the vet and her body was just shutting down.  we really don't know what happened to her, but it was a sad day.  Abby learned that day Slippers was very sick, she was at the vet and they were trying to make her better.  We felt it would be better to ease her into the fact that Slippers was gone.  Finally on Wed we told her.....it was TERRIBLE.  She was so sad.  She cried and cried.  It was almost dinner and she decided she would be able to eat.  She asked when we could get another cat?  Or a dog?   How about another sister or brother?
She and Doug talked about going to get a gold fish this weekend.

After dinner and many dramatic moments of being sad Slippers is with Jesus, I overheard her tell Ella, "Now that Slippers died, we might get a dog."  I took that as a sign of hope that things would be okay.

Bedtime was another story, but we made it through and last night was not as bad.  Today she has not even mentioned her.

Abby has always known Slippers, she was a "gift" from my brother when Abby was 6 weeks old.  He thought it would be cute for them to grow up together.  He has apologized many times since that day:)
Abby asked hard questions about heaven and why Jesus doesn't heal everyone.  I told her I did not understand all of it and that if I could change it for her I would.  Overall, I think she has handled it pretty good for a 6 year old.  I just wish she hadn't had to learn this lesson right now.

FYI, I don't really miss Slippers, I especially don't miss cleaning up after her and feeling frustrated about what to do with the silly cat.  Sometimes I feel a little guilty that I am enjoying her absence and abby is mourning it.

Also, we are not, I repeat, NOT getting another cat or dog for a very long time:)  But don't remind me of that if I break down and give in....

On a much brighter note, the above mentioned girl, Abigail, has had some funny one liners lately:

She heard me singing to Lily the other day when I was changing her diaper.  She popped her head in Lily's room, "Mommy was that you singing?"
"yes."
"Wow, Mommy, you sing really good.  You should go on American Idol!  I'm serious you really should they would like you."
(The girl is almost 7 and she acted like she has never heard me sing before....and I sing alot.)

"Mommy, do you still have all your stuff so you can milk the new baby?"
"when you are in the shower can I be in charge of Ella and Lily?"

I'm sure there are many more, but I have gone on long enough.

Oh, Ella asked for a mommy for Christmas today.  Not quite sure what that means?  I asked her what I was and she said a mommy, but she still wants one for Christmas????

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
